Insurance & Permits
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We carry full general liability insurance and workers' compensation. A certificate of insurance is available on request before work begins.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Athens?
Athens-Clarke County regulates removal of landmark and street trees, especially in historic districts. Most healthy trees on private residential property can be removed without a permit, but we always check first.
Will my homeowner's insurance cover tree removal?
Usually only if the tree damaged a covered structure (house, garage, fence). Removing a healthy or diseased tree from your yard is typically not covered.
Do you help with insurance documentation?
Yes. We provide photos, written scope of work, and itemized invoices that insurance adjusters need for claims.
Services & Scheduling
Do you offer 24/7 emergency service?
Yes. Storm damage, fallen trees on homes, and blocked driveways are handled around the clock. We typically arrive within 60 minutes for Athens-area emergencies.
How long does a typical tree removal take?
A standard 40–60 ft residential removal takes 3–5 hours from setup to cleanup. Larger or crane-assisted jobs can take a full day.
What's the best time of year to trim trees in Georgia?
Late winter (January–early March) is ideal for most deciduous trees. Oaks should not be pruned April–July to avoid oak wilt.
Do you grind stumps after removing trees?
Stump grinding is a separate service, usually discounted when bundled with removal. We grind 6–12 inches below grade.
Do you haul away the wood and debris?
Yes — full cleanup is included in every quote. We can leave firewood-length rounds on-site if you'd like.
Trees & Tree Health
How do I know if a tree needs to be removed?
Warning signs include large dead branches, fungus at the base, hollow or cracked trunks, sudden lean after a storm, major root damage, and significant insect infestations. A free arborist assessment gives you a clear answer.
Can a leaning tree be saved?
A tree that has always leaned slightly is usually fine. A tree that develops a NEW lean after a storm has likely had root failure and is a removal candidate.
What is 'topping' and why don't you do it?
Topping is cutting the main leaders flat across the top of a tree. It causes weak regrowth, invites decay, and dramatically shortens tree lifespan. ISA Certified Arborists never top trees.
Can you save a split tree with cabling?
Often yes. Co-dominant trunks with a crack at the union are great candidates for steel cabling and bracing — usually a fraction of removal cost.
What pests are most common in Athens trees?
Pine bark beetle in loblolly pines, emerald ash borer in ash trees, oak wilt in red oaks, and hypoxylon canker on stressed hardwoods are the most common Athens-area threats.
Service Area
What areas do you serve?
